Maite Villalba de Benito

M. TERESA VILLALBA received the B.Sc. degree in mathematics from Universidad Complutense, Madrid, Spain in 1996, and the M.S. in Computer science respectively in 1998. She received the Ph.D. degree in computer science in Universidad de Alcalá, Madrid, Spain, in 2009. She is an associate professor at the Computer Science Department of Universidad Europea de Madrid for 16 years. 

From 2008 she is in charge of the Master Degree in ICT Security, and from 2016 she is head of the Research Group in Educational Technology. She has authored or co-authored over 60 papers in refereed journals, book chapters, and international conferences. Researcher in more than 25 competitive research projects at national, regional or local level; she has been leading/leads 5 EU-funded research projects. Her research interests are Technology applied to education and ICT security. 

Dr Villalba is the Spanish representative of the Legal & Security Issues Task Force in CEPIS (Council of European Professional Informatics Society) based in Brussels and member of the Engineering Commission Expert Panel for assessment and accreditation of Higher Education degrees (Autonomous government of Madrid). Dr. Villalba’s awards and honors include: the best thesis of her promotion, the best research in ICT Security in Spain (Red Seguridad, 2011), best teacher (UEM, 2012), Cisco Instructor Excellence Award 2012, and Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert for the third year in a row (2016- 2018). Lately, she has received the David A. Wilson Award for Excellence for Research in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (2018, Baltimore, USA) which recognizes the trajectory of faculty members in the field of excellence and innovation in higher education teaching and learning. Moreover, this last year, one of her supervised theses has received the prize for the best research in privacy by the Spanish Agency for Data Protection (Spain Government, 2018).
